The U.S. Bureau of Land Management has narrowed its focus to 22,000 acres in the San Luis Valley that it would consider for utility-scale solar projects. The parcels include 10,000 acres that sit on the east side of U.S. 285 between Antonito and the state line and just under 6,000 acres west of Romeo. A third parcel covers 4,000 acres northeast of the intersection of U.S. 160 and Colorado 150. A fourth parcel takes in 2,000 acres east of Saguache and has already drawn a partial application from Arizona-based First Solar, which hopes to build a 150-megawatt plant.
