Richard Durán has spent nearly four decades opening classroom doors for students as a teacher and community college administrator. Durán, who has guided one community college to accreditation and overseen the opening of another, has been named Adams State College's outstanding alumnus for the year.He spent his mornings teaching at Antonito's elementary school and the rest of his day at Adams State, where he earned a bachelor's degree in education in 1971 and a master's degree in the same major two years later. He credits the Alamosa college for launching his career in education.
