The Antonito Trojans football team from the southern edge of the San Luis Valley are enjoying a resurgence after a long drought. Coach Aaron Abeyta has a good group of seniors who have helped rebuild the program. The school struggled to maintain an 11-man football program before dropping to 8-man. Even then, Abeyta said the Trojans endured a 28-game losing streak and were out-scored 183-6 in one three-game stretch. "In all honesty, we looked to the Granadas and the Merinos of the 8-man world for our inspiration," Abeyta wrote in an e-mail describing his five seasons as head coach. [ watch video ]
